All-Around Pkg Through years of evolution
and rider driven design, Freebord has engineered a
setup that rides exactly like a snowboard on pavement.
Throw drawn-out drifts, butters, edge in and slide
to a stop, bomb the steepest hills, or just cruise
that 8 mile mountain pass you wish was covered in
snow. Get that feeling of snowboarding anywhere, anytime
– no lift ticket, no lines, no off-season.
The Design:
The deck of a Freebord resembles a large skateboard.
Beneath the deck are four fixed wheels mounted on
long trucks that extend beyond the board. These wheels
simulate the edges of a snowboard and are used for
carving. In addition to these four “edge”
wheels, the Freebord has two additional base wheels
on the board’s center line that rotate 360 degrees.
These act like the base of a snowboard allowing riders
to initiate slides in any direction, check their speed
or stop just like they would on snow. 1 year warranty
on all product!
Decks - Freebord offers 3 different
series of boards in varying sizes, for riders of all
weights and heights. Light, responsive and solid,
each series is designed to be able to bomb the steeps
with total control and stability while still being
light enough for airs. All of Freebord’s decks
come gripped and are made with 7-Ply, Canadian rock
maple. Bindings - Freebord’s S2 half-bindings
mount to the top of the deck providing increased edge
control. The S2’s are rotationally and vertically
adjustable with an injection molded upper and bent
and stamped steel base. The S2’s provide superior
edge control and complete customization of stance.
They are required for all boards. Wheels – Freebord’s custom
designed wheels are the result of hours of product
testing on a wide variety of pavement. Poured exclusively
for Freebord, the stock wheels and Slasher upgrade
edges are all specially formulated to provide the
ideal balance of grip, stopping power, and durability.
Will Freebord improve my snowboarding?
Definitely. Freebord carves and slides exactly like
a snowboard so it teaches and reinforces the weighting
and edging skills needed on the snow. Freebord is
also an excellent tool for learning how to snowboard
in advance of ever hitting the slopes--saving you
those first few days of brutal falls.
How does Freebord work?
Freebord's simulation of snowboarding is the result
of years of mechanical development and prototypes.
The two center wheels function as the base of a snowboard
and allow motion in all directions. The outer four
wheels function as a snowboard's edges and sit slightly
off the ground. The result is that you can selectively
apply your weight to your edges or your base, determining
whether to carve or slide or any combination of those
two motions.
Is it difficult to Freebord? Does it take
long to learn?
Riding a Freebord looks easy, but it's not. As a beginner,
you have to commit to the idea that you’re snowboarding
on pavement (not skateboarding). Just like learning
to snowboard, it may take several days or weeks to
get the hang of it - even if you rip on snow. Prior
experience in other boardsports, particularly snowboarding,
speeds the learning process.
Can I use my Freebord as a conventional longboard?
Freebord is designed for downhill riding and doesn’t
ride the same as a conventional longboard. Riders
can adjust the amount of rocker (space between the
downhill edge wheels and the road), by retracting
the center wheels.
Do I need bindings?
Yes, Every Freebord Package comes with S2 Bindings.
These Bindings are designed for fast and easy exiting.
They also provide increased control and leverage in
your turns.
Is Freebord dangerous? Can I "catch
an edge"?
Freebording is extremely dangerous. It’s important
to remember to always keep your weight on your uphill
edge while riding. Dropping the downhill edge will
cause you to “catch an edge”, forcing
the board to an abrupt stop and making you fall hard.
Also, never ride on center wheels only. The board
will be unstable and may slide out from under you.
